Skilled Nursing Facility

The United Medical Nursing Center (UMNC) is a licensed, full-service, 120-bed nursing facility that provides care for residents in a spacious and attractive environment on the 6th and 7th floors of UMC.  Here, credentialed physicians and nurses provide comprehensive nursing care and medical services – cardiovascular, pulmonary, general medical and rehabilitative services, as well as wound care management, and other needed care.  In addition, social and therapeutic recreational activities are provided on a regular basis, as are other specialized services.

At UMNC, we offer opportunities for medically complex patients from hospitals in the Greater Washington area to transition into an environment where established plans-of-care are provided on an extended basis for the life of the resident.

A multi-disciplinary resident care planning conference is held regularly for each resident. Residents and/or families are invited to participate in care planning conferences. The Resident Care Coordinator or assigned Social Worker will have information about the next scheduled conference.

Volunteer Services
Volunteers play an important role in the residents’ quality of life at UMNC.  Family members and friends are encouraged to volunteer their time to work with Nursing and the Therapeutic Recreation staff.  Help is always needed with: transporting residents to and from activities; sponsoring unit parties; chaperoning trips outside the facility; arranging for churches to provide spiritual leadership; and much more.  If you can help, please contact the Director of Therapeutic Recreation and Volunteer Services, at 202-574-6973.
