Radiology

United Medical Center’s Radiology Department is full accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR) in mRI, CT, US, Mammography and Nuclear Medicine. We offer X-ray and Intervention Procedures. This accreditation means that our department meets a standard of safety and responsibility that you can trust!

MRI
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a magnet that uses low-intensity radio waves and technology to create images of tissues, muscles, nerves, and bones in the body. These images are helpful for patient diagnosis and provide insight into the body. During the exam, the patient lies on the table inside the opening of the magnet that makes a knocking sound during the exam as images are generated. To successfully complete this test, those who are claustrophobic or overweight may need to consult with their ordering physician before the day of our appointment. The technologist is available throughout the procedure to provide comfort and assistance to the patient.

CT
Computed Tomography (CT) is an advanced diagnostic test that uses X-rays, a special scanner and a computer to produce detailed images of the body. In sequence, these images give your physician a 3D view of your body allowing for better accuracy in diagnosis. The computer takes cross-sectional pictures or “slices” of the soft tissue, bone and blood vessels. Some CT scans ordered by your physician may require he use of contrast media that assist in highlighting an organ for a clearer view.

Micro-Dose Mammography
This technology is a safe, low-dose X-ray of the breast that can assist in early detection of cancers too small to be felt by the patient or healthcare provider. With up to 50% less radiation than traditional systems you can have peace of mind about the safety of your routine mammograms. Which testing can start at the discretion of your physician.

Ultrasound
Ultrasound is a non-invasive procedure that uses high-frequency sound waves to view internal organs to produce images of the human body. It is the most widely used imaging tool in modern medicine and poses no risk to the patient.

X-ray
An x-ray is a painless medical test used to help physicians diagnose and treat medical conditions. X-rays can be used to look at bones, joints and soft tissues. They can be used to check for bone fractures or infections, joints for damage or inflammation and soft tissues and organs for signs of disease.

Fluoroscopy
Fluoroscopy is a study of the moving body structures where an x-ray beam is passed through the body part and transmitted to a monitor that details the motion. It enables physicians to look at the body part systems and evaluate movement within the function of the body.

Interventional Radiology
Surgical Radiology is a growing medical sub-speciality, which utilizes minimally invasive image-guided procedures to diagnose and treat disease in nearly every organ system. Ask your doctor if an (IR) or (VIR) procedure is right for you.
