Washington, D.C. – The Not-for-Profit Hospital Corporation, commonly known as United Medical Center (UMC), announced today the renewal of its three-year term of accreditation in computed tomography (CT) after a successful survey by the American College of Radiology (ACR).
The ACR is a national organization that awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high practice standards after a peer-review evaluation of the practice. Evaluations are conducted by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. They assess the qualifications of the personnel and the adequacy of facility equipment.
“The renewal of UMC’s CT Imaging accreditation is further evidence that we are making tremendous progress in upgrading and maintaining both our facilities and the quality of patient care. I give credit to our team of radiology technologists and physicians for helping us achieve this important standard and for their ongoing commitment to providing quality patient care” noted Raymond Tu, M.D., FACR, Chairman of Radiology at United Medical Center.
The Imaging Services department at UMC provides a variety of services with convenient hours, including x-ray, CT scan, MRI, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, and interventional radiology. UMC was the first hospital in the DC area to offer Mico-Dose mammography, which offers up to 50% less radiation than traditional mammography systems for the detection of breast cancer.
