Why is United Medical Center closing?
United Medical Center is permanently closing to make way for the new Cedar Hill Regional Medical Center-GW Health, which will be opening in our community. This exciting new facility is the result of a partnership between District leadership and Universal Health Services, aimed at enhancing healthcare for everyone in the area.

The decision to close United Medical Center was made by District leaders, city officials, and United Medical Center’s Board of Directors.

What is being done to help ensure a smooth transition for patients?
United Medical Center is fully committed to supporting its patients and their families throughout this transition. We are actively collaborating with local medical centers, emergency services, city leaders, and various programs to coordinate effective transition and transport plans, ensuring that every patient smoothly moves from our care to the next stage of their healthcare journey.

Will United Medical Center’s doctors and nurses continue working at other locations?
Some of United Medical Center’s doctors and nurses may choose to continue their work at other locations, depending on their individual preferences and opportunities.

Will there be a transition of care plan in place for patients who require ongoing medical attention?
Yes. United Medical Center is coordinating with area hospitals to accept certain patients who are in need of ongoing care.

Are there alternative hospitals nearby that will handle emergency services?
Yes, all local hospitals are aware of the United Medical Center closure and are fully prepared to provide emergency services as needed.

Will public transportation routes changes to accommodate patients traveling to other hospitals?
There will be no changes to public transportation routes due to the United Medical Center closure. Additionally, all referred hospitals and medical facilities are easily accessible via multiple public transportation systems.

Are there any resources to help with transportation to other healthcare facilities?
For patients who require ongoing inpatient care, transportation will be arranged to transfer acute cases to nearby hospitals where they can continue receiving care.

What happens to my medical records after the hospital closes?
Even though United Medical Center will be closing, patients can have their new healthcare providers request their medical records through CRISP DC. This system allows for the instant sharing of health and social information between doctors’ offices, hospitals, labs, radiology centers, community organizations, and other healthcare providers.
Patients will need to opt-in to give the network access to their medical records. For more details, visit CRISP DC.
